Most rabbits are raised outside the home so it is important that you buy or build them a warm, safe and cozy hutch to live in. Rabbits make a mess and even if your intentions are to keep him inside, this may change shortlly after bring him home.
When buying an outdoor rabbit hutch, you may want to take into account the following ideas:
1. The first thing that you need to consider is the size. How big a hutch or cage should you purchase? Commonly, rabbit enthusiasts and experts suggest that you should purchase the largest hutch or cage that you can afford and will fit where you need to place it. For smaller breeds ( those who weigh around 8 lbs.), a cage that is at least 24 inches by 36 inches should be enough. Medium and larger breeds should be put in at least a cage that is 30 inches by 36 inches in size. You must provide housing that is at least four (4) times the rabbit's length, but the bigger your cage or hutch the better.
2. A rabbit hutch is a much better idea than a cage. And, if the rabbit is to saty outdoors it is an absolute necessity. A cage offers no protection from the elements and if animal control sees this you will be in a lot of hot water! So, if the rabbit is to be an outside bunny, get him an outdoor rabbit hutch. Here is a link to the one I bought for our little bunny.

3. When buying a hutch or cage with a wire floor, consider adding a solid area made of wood. This will give your rabbit a comfortable place to rest, and believe it or not, the rabbit will usually pee and poop elsewhere, like on the wire screen so clean up will be easy as pie! uh, pie and rabbit poop, bad choice of words!
4. You can actually buy a rabbit hutch for the same price as building one, especially if you put a dollar amount on your time. There are specialized materials you will need to purchaser to ensure the hutch is non-toxic to the rabbit but will hold up to insects and harsh weather. Again, if you are looking for an outdoor rabbit hutch, I highly recommend the Ware Premium Bunny Barn, which you can check out by clicking here.
